Public Notice: Volunteer Opportunities in August 2018

Fiesta la Ballona – Friday, Sat. & Sun August 24, 25 & 26, 2018

Fiesta La Ballona is Culver City’s annual 3-day community festival with live music, food, carnival rides and more!  Volunteers help make this event fun, safe, clean and green.  Everything from staffing the info booth to monitoring our green rooms, volunteers help make it happen.  Community service credit is given and this is a great way for Culver City High School students to get hours completed for the school year before classes begin!  Fiesta is held in Veterans Park at the corner of Culver & Overland.  Visit the Fiesta website to learn more and sign up to volunteer – we’ll see you there!

Annual Back to School Giveaway – Sat. August 18, 2018

A Child’s Dream will be hosting their annual Back to School Give-Away in Culver City at the Teen Center. Volunteers are needed to assist children and their families in selecting the right backpack and determining the correct shoe size for over 500 children. Shifts are between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. If interested, please visit their website to sign-up.

Local Non-Profit Spotlight: Mar Vista Family Center

The Mar Vista Family Center (MVFC) operates on a sustainable and cooperative model through which families remain involved with the Center across generations from early childhood all the way through adulthood. Volunteers make up a key part of the MVFC family, offering their time and energy to make a difference in the lives of families and the community. They offer an after-school tutoring volunteer program that intends to help children and youth K-12 with homework, reading, and fun learning activities! Volunteers work one-on-one or in small groups and may choose between subjects and grade levels. Please visit their website here for more information.

The Volunteer Newsletter is provided by the Culver City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.  Please visit our Volunteer Directory, Teen Volunteering resources and @CulverVolunteer twitter feed.
